Thankful November - Day 14

Today, I'm thankful for my gym and the wonderful women there.

In the last seven months, it has become the place that I feel most "normal" as I struggle through unemployment and the alone-ness that brings with it.  I have spent a lot of time there - and not necessarily working out.  The fabulous owners have allowed me to work the front desk, where I can practice my "be nice to people" skills; they have allowed me to work on special projects with them and for the betterment of the gym; they even let me come in and just sit and cry when I need a shoulder.

Thank you, Every Woman Health Club, for allowing me to be me during this crazy time in my life.

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 13

Today, I'm thankful for my car!

It's reliable.  It's cute.  It's comfortable.  It gets pretty good gas mileage.  And most of all, it's all mine!

I'm particularly thankful each month when I pay bills that I was able to pay off the loan two years ago and it's one less bill that I have to contend with while I'm out of work.  That little victory makes me more thankful!

And besides,  Maxy loves to go for rides in it....

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 12

Today, I'm thankful for my wonderfu eye doctor and his staff.  I knew my vision was getting worse (it happens when you get older, right?), and they spent lots of time testing and retesting me to make sure the new prescription for glasses and contact lenses was correct before ordering.  And, he ran several tests on my eyes to make sure there wasn't something sinister happening somewhere else in my body making my vision diminish.

I picked up my new "edgy" glasses this morning and wow, can I see well!!!

Until next time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 11

Today, I'm thankful that my beloved Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons, otherwise known as the 'Dirty Birds.'

The victory is especially sweet because 'dem birds were undefeated coming into our house.  Drew Brees and company showed them some New Orleans hospitality, all right.

Hah.

And Who Dat!!!

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 10

Today, instead of trying to be original, I'm posting a link to my 10th day of thankfulness post from last year.  I'm thankful for the same thing each November 10, so why not be unoriginal and repetitive?

Enjoy... and Semper Fi.

Thankful November - Day 9

I'm thankful that it's Friday.

Not that I've had anything stressful or important going on the rest of this week.  But, I'm trying to get myself into a working state of mind again, and I was always happiest on Friday when I was working.

So, for all my working friends out there, Happy Friday!

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 8

Today, no deep thoughts on what I'm thankful for.  Let's just say I'm thankful to be breathing, alive and here on Earth.

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 7

Today, as goofy as it sounds, I'm thankful for my cable tv.

Since I've spent the better part of the last seven months at home, I spend a lot of time on the couch with Maxy and we watch tv a lot.  Movies.  Daytime talk shows.  Reruns of night time soap operas.  And did I mention the DVR?  That thing gets a workout!

I hate paying that bill every month, but have a new appreciation for the service.  And I need to go back to work SOON!

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 6

Today, I am thankful to live in a country that's free, where I can disagree with my friends and family about politics, religion, morality and if the sun is shining.  At the end of the day, we all go our separate ways and when tomorrow comes around, we're all still friends and family.

And I'm thankful that we can all go to the polls freely and make a choice that is our own.  God Bless America!

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 5

Today, I'm thankful for the gardener who comes every Monday and takes care of the yard!

He's quick, efficient, and does a great job.  The lawn in front and on the side of the house look really good all year long. If I need help with other plants or flowers or anything else in the yard, all I have to do is ask and he schedules a time to get it done for me.

I'm just glad I don't have to take care of any of the yard work - I'm defnitely not a yard work kind of girl!

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 4

Today I'm thankful for lazy Sundays that I can hang out on the couch with a blanket, beverages and snacks, corny movies and my favorite, four-legged furry friend!

Until next time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 3

Today, I'm thankful for my computer skills and the ability to learn software quickly.

While continuing to try to find a job (this is getting really old!), I found myself at an interview recently where I was asked if I knew Office 2010.  At that point, I had only dabbled in it a bit, so I said "yes!" and hoped that lightening wouldn't strike me at that moment.

On my way home, I stopped and bought Office 2010 and a manual to go with it.  I've been working through the manual for the last couple of days and it seems to be fairly easy.  I'm feeling pretty good about "knowing" Office 2010 right about now.

Let's hope that really do KNOW it for the next round of the interview process!

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November - Day 2

Each November 2nd I am always thankful for the same thing - my Granny.

Today, she would have been 101 years old.  And if she was still here, I can guarantee you that she'd be as fiesty as she was when she was 81.  She was tough, loving and taught me everything I know about cooking.

This little chef is one of the few physical reminders I have of her, and every time I make jambalaya, gumbo or potato salad, I look at him and say "Granny, I hope it's as good as yours!"  Somehow, his wry little smile tells me she'd be happy with the results.

Thank you, Granny, for being you and for being a part of my life for over 40 years.  I was lucky to have you be such an influence into my adult years and I miss you terribly.

Until Next Time,

Kel

Thankful November

Yikes!

Looking at this blog, it's been almost exactly a year since I've been here.  Lots of stuff has happened in the last 365 days.  But we'll get caught up later.

Today, I'm starting back with my Thankful November posts.  I always enjoy doing these because it makes me take a few minutes each day to really look at my life and appreciate things that are sometimes taken for granted.

So, here we go...

DAY 1

Today, I'm thankful that I'm here and I'm me.  I have pretty good health, a wonderful family, great friends in many cities and states and a dog that I can't imagine living without.

Until Next Time,

Kel
